Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

At MLC, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) are at the heart of everything we do. We strive to create a community where every individual feels valued, respected and empowered to thrive.

Our Commitment

MLC is committed to fostering a community where every student is valued, respected and empowered to shape their own future. Guided by our College Values, we firmly stand against all forms of racism, discrimination and prejudice.

Racism and discrimination are unlawful and prevent individuals from reaching their full potential. Every student, parent, staff member, volunteer and community member has the right to feel safe and free from racism and discrimination within the College’s learning and working environment. We are committed to ensuring that no individual or group is disadvantaged due to their racial, cultural, ethnic, national or religious background.

We believe that education, open dialogue and collective action are essential tools in dismantling systemic barriers and biases, and in building a culture of belonging, understanding, equity and justice. At MLC, we recognise that diversity is a source of strength and are committed to continuous growth and improvement in this area. Our students look to us to set an example and we call on the wider MLC Community to join us in creating a more equitable future where all can thrive.

Living Our Values

At MLC, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are woven into the fabric of our College Values — Integrity, Wonder, Courage and Humanity. These values guide how we learn, lead and connect, ensuring that every member of our community feels respected and empowered.

• Integrity calls us to act with honesty and fairness, creating a culture where discrimination and prejudice have no place.
• Wonder inspires us to embrace curiosity and celebrate the richness of diverse perspectives, cultures and experiences.
• Courage empowers us to challenge inequity, speak up for justice and lead positive change within our community and beyond.
• Humanity reminds us of our shared responsibility to care for one another, fostering empathy, belonging and inclusion for all.

By living these values every day, we create an environment where diversity is not only acknowledged but celebrated as a source of strength.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a cornerstone of our DEI strategy, reflecting our commitment to truth-telling, respect and meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Through the RAP, we acknowledge the importance of understanding history, celebrating culture and creating opportunities for genuine connection. It guides us in embedding reconciliation into our everyday practices whether through curriculum, community engagement or cultural events so that every member of our College can contribute to a more inclusive and just future.
